How long does local anaesthesia take to wear off?

I had my tooth extracted today. 4 hours had passed but I can still feel the numbness in my face. Did my dentist use too much anesthesia? I'm wondering how long it takes to wear down? Will this cause any damage?

Dont worry about it, the effects of general anesthesia can last anywhere between 3-6 hours. Try and keep the talking, eating and drinking to a minimum, so that you don't end up biting yourself in the mouth/lips without realising it!

I got three of my wisdom teeth taken out this morning. I had full anesthesia. I was completely numb in my tongue, bottom lip,teeth and gums. After 6 hours my tongue has worn off some and I got some feeling back. The dentist said, it could take 8 hours to get better completely.
