Facial pain after a root canal

Two weeks ago, I had an abscess on tooth #12. Any part of my face near that tooth would hurt to touch and the pain would spread to my nose and mouth. Last week, I had a root canal on this tooth. I thought the facial pain would go away after the root canal treatment but it didn’t. Two days after the root canal, my face swelled and the pain had extended to my jaw line. Does this mean the abscess was not removed completely? The swelling is almost gone now but I am still in pain. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sometimes the swelling has to be lanced for the pus to drain out, and you get better in a hurry. Occasionally, a root canal pushes bacteria out the root end, and there is swelling like you had afterwards.
