Dead Tooth

Hi there!

Six years ago, I had a root canal done on one of my front teeth. At first, this tooth was light gray in color. Recently, I noticed that it already turned into a darker gray. It is noticeable when I smile. Is this a sign that the tooth is dead?If it is dead do I have to get it removed?

Please advise me on what to do. It's beginning to affect my self confidence.

Thanks a lot!

Hello Oddyssey!

A dead tooth can still be saved. A root canal treated tooth tends to become brittle. Have a dental crown put on it to make this tooth stronger and to prevent it from breaking.

Hello!

Yes,you can still save it. Once the tooth is dead it indeed will discolor and it can't be whitened. You may need caps or veneers for this tooth.
