Cavities or deep grooves?

Hi,

I noticed black spots on my back teeth so I went to the dentist for check up. He said I have six molars that have cavities and scheduled me for treatment next week. Yesterday, I went to my hygienist for my regular dental cleaning. I told her about my cavities but she said I don’t have any cavities, only deep groves. I am quite confused now. Any ideas? If I indeed have cavities, I would definitely have them treated but I also would not want to have my teeth drilled if it’s not necessary. Thank you very much.

I don't know. If I were you, I would be leery as well. There is not way to tell from a forum like this. The only way to be sure is to visit another dentist and have him poke the grooves and see if there is a catch. My suggestion would be to go to an older dentist who owns his own practice.
