Baking Soda

Hello everyone,

I had braces for years and when I had them off, the orthodontist gave me fixed retainer. My teeth
became yellow while I have my braces on and I want to whiten them with baking soda.

Does baking soda actually whiten teeth? Can I use this with a fixed retainer?

Please help.

Thanks a lot!

Hello Terrefiedlady,

Do not use baking soda to whiten your teeth if you have braces or permanent retainer because it can dissolve orthodontic glue.

Hi there!

Baking soda is safe to use to whiten teeth. However, you should only use it once every two weeks because it is quite abrasive and it can damage the tooth enamel if it is used too often. It is not advisable to those who wear braces and permanent retainers because it can dissolve orthodontic glue.
